Our Journey So Far
You may remember that we first started talking about providing a pier and river bus service here in February 2020, when we shared our early designs and ideas for the wider redevelopment of Blackwall Yard and asked the public to share their views on our proposals via a series of online polls.
In one of the polls, we asked whether people would support the delivery of a new Thames Clipper stop at the site at Blackwall Yard. We also showed some early computer-generated images of our proposed pier designs. Over 75% of survey respondents were in favour of the idea, and since then we have been working on these plans and speaking to a number of authorities and groups such as the Port of London Authority to see whether this is feasible.
Following these discussions and positive earlier feedback, we are now finalising our plans for the pier and river bus service for Poplar and the wider area. We are launching this new consultation website to provide you with some detailed information on the proposals, updated computer-generated images of our designs and offer you another opportunity for you to have your say ahead of us submitting a separate planning application for this in the coming months.
The pier will be entirely publicly accessible with panoramic views of the river. We believe it will contribute to the much-needed sustainable travel initiatives contained within our wider application and will be a further benefit for the local community, helping to put Blackwall Yard on the map. More details of the plans and potential benefits can be viewed on this website.
In principle, we aim to begin construction of the pier and river bus station alongside construction of the wider development of the site at Blackwall Yard and hope to have the river bus service complete and in operation by the summer of 2025. However, this is dependent on receiving planning approval for both this application and the wider development at Blackwall Yard, and on a number of additional approvals, conditions and requirements stipulated by the Port of London Authority, Environment Agency and Marine Management Organisation.
We want to hear what you think so please don’t forget to have your say by answering our online poll, giving us a call or sending us an email. If you know of anyone, friends or neighbours, who don’t have access to the internet but would like copies of this information, please do let us know and we would be happy to post a copy of the materials to them.
